Hamlet Act 1 scene III & scene IV

Act 1 scene 3

This scene show that Ophelia sister’s of Leartes , and Hamlet have some sort of relationship when Leartes knows that he is anxiety about Ophelia losing sight of herself, and her honour because Hamlet is above her (in the social status) .

He might have to marry someone else in the same social status , and he believe that Hamlet used Ophelia to sexual purity. Because it may be impossible for Hamlet to marry her .

Ophelia thanks Leartes for this advice but she also tell him not to be a hypocrite , like someone who are quick to give advice to others. When Leartes finally leaves Polonius asks what Leartes and Ophelia were talking about ? Ophelia said it was about Hamlet and their relashionship.

He tells his daughter that Hamlet only wants to sleep with her , and he also warning his daughter to stop seeing Hamlet . Ophelia agree and she is obey her father .

Finally this scene show that Ophelia is bound to the whims. Her father and brother attempt to control her feelings while she feels tugged in the other direction by Hamlet’s promise and affection .

The fact that so many men are attempting to control Ophelia means that , by necessary she must hold back certain aspects of herself in order to meet their expectations .

A stressfull and cheating way of living that will cause her to become more and more unstable as the play moves forward.

Act 1 scene 4

In this scene Hamlet , Horatio , and Mercellus stand on the Elsinore Castle , waiting for the ghost to appear. Sound of Claudius and his courties feasting and drinking echo from inside the castle. Hamlet’s suspicion and hates of his uncle grow with each day , because Claudius has quickly forgotten death of his brother.

The ghost appears,and Horatio urges Hamlet talk to it , Hamlet begins speaking to the ghost

The ghost told Hamlet to follow it ,because the ghost do not believe the Horatio and Marcellus to keep his speak .

Mercellus and Horatio again urge Hamlet not to go with the ghost , but Hamlet decided to follow his father’s ghost , and receive its message.

Marcellus believe that there is something wrong not just within the family , but in the country as a whole .

Act 1 scene 2

Scene 2

The morning after Horatio and the guardsmen see the ghost again.

King Claudius the new King of Denmark and he is marriage to Gertrude, his brother’s widow and the mother’s of prince Hamlet

Claudius says that he mourns his brother but he has chosen to balance Denmark mourning with the delight of his marriage,and after that he sent Cornelius and Voltimand with a message for the King of Norway_Fortinbras uncle to stop Fortinbras .

After that Leartes son of Polonius comes to asks the king’s permission to return to France .

Claudius turn to prince Hamlet asks why ” the clouds still hang ” upon him

And he is still wearing black mourning clothes.

Claudius and Gertrude speak to Hamlet that all fathers die,and claudius urges Hamlet to think of him as a father,and he says that he does not wish for Hamlet to return to school at Witenberg. Hamlet stiffly agree to obey claudius and his mother.

After that Horatio and Marcellus and Bernardo comes, and Hamlet was happy to see him, Horatio came to see King Hamlet’s funeral.

He then tells Hamlet that he, Marcellus,and Bernardo have seen what appears to be his father’s ghost.

Hamlet agree to keep watch with them that night .

Act 1 scene 1

Scene 1

On a dark winter night outside Elsinore Castle in Denmark, an officer named Bernardo he is a guardman comes to relieve the watchman Francisco. Shortly thereafter Bernardo metting Marcellus .He is another watchman,and Horatio , a close friend of prince Hamlet.

Bernardo and marcellus had already seen a ghost they encourage Horatio to stand watch with them. They believe that the ghost of King Hamlet, but Horatio did not believe that.

Then the ghost appears before them.

Horatio admit that the ghost does resemble the dead of King Hamlet.

After that the ghost appears for second time and Horatio tries to speak to the ghost, but the ghost remains silent then Horatio suggests that they tell prince Hamlet about the ghost. He believe that the ghost to his son if it is really the ghost of King Hamlet.
